Promoting Women’s Rights

We give 10% of all our profits to Women for Afghan Women, a nonprofit focused on preserving and promoting the rights of Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and in the United States. All of Mazahri’s donations will go exclusively to programming in Afghanistan where women are currently fighting to maintain the hard-earned rights they have fought for with their blood over the past 20 years.

Supporting People and the Planet

  • Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners— All of the gold we use is produced by Fairmined certified from artisanal and small-scale miners from countries in the Global South. All of the colored gemstones we use are mined by artisanal and small-scale minors from countries in the Global South including Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Vietnam, Liberia. These miners are paid fair wages and afforded good working conditions by the responsible suppliers we source from. We have plans to expand our buying to Tanzania, Nigeria, and Kenya in the coming year.

  • Afghan Artisans— All Mazahri jewelry boxes and pouches are made locally by skilled artisans in Afghanistan.

  • Women—Mazahri prioritizes working with women and we are proud to say 66% of the partner businesses and organizations we work with are owned and/or run by women. And Mazahri is a woman owned business itself.

  • People of Color Small Businesses— All of our jewelry is crafted in collaboration with our partner casting house which is a small business owned and operated by people of color in New York City, paying fair wages and providing safe and healthy working conditions. Mazahri itself is also a small, independent woman of color owned business.

  • The Planet— Mazahri’s business practices support people and the planet. Our customized approach to crafting each piece was designed to cut down waste and eliminate excess production. We believe in slow and sustainable and quality over quantity.
